Train lovers will be happy to know that the I.V. Lions Train has been completely rebuilt. Thanks to many Illinois Valley merchants and friends this task was possible, said I.V. Lions.

And the Harley is back. A 2007 Harley Davidson DynaWide Glide will be raffled on Labor Day at the conclusion of the festival. The bike is displayed at Taylor’s Country Store, and tickets still are available.

Proceeds from the raffle support the I.V. Lions Sight & Hearing and Scholarship programs, as well as other community service needs.

Live festival music will be provided all three days. “Broadway Phil & The Shouters” will perform Saturday night; “Southern Oregon Blues Band” on Sunday night; and Dale Hopper on Monday.

Among festival features will be food and vendor booths, bingo by Glenn Morrison American Legion Post Auxiliary, a watermelon seed-spitting contest, greased money pole and a money haystack.

There will be a beer garden, Lion Burgers, a dunk tank, and 50/50 drawings through the entire weekend. Kerby Belt Lodge will dish up a breakfast.

Next week’s issue will include a festival schedule, and special greetings from Illinois Valley and Grants Pass area merchants.

The festival and parade are staged by the I.V. Lions Club as a means of thanking the community for its continued support throughout the year. The club provides scholarships for I.V. High School students, needed help for residents through its Sight & Hearing Program, and it loans hospital and other medical equipment to valley residents.
