The featured artist for September-October at Sterling Savings Bank in Downtown Cave Junction is Dorothea Hover-Kramer, who was selected by the Illinois Valley Fine Artists’ group to be its representative.

The show will be available for viewing Tuesday, Sept. 4.

Besides being a multitalented artist, Hover-Kramer is a concert pianist, a well-known author, and an effective life skills counselor with 30 years experience. She recently has expanded her reach to include the visual arts as well.

Since moving to the Illinois River Valley four years ago, she has explored the beauty of her environment through watercolor and acrylic paintings. Her work represents her “connection to Nature” and her wish “to preserve what is left of the wilderness for future generations.”

Each painting in the exhibit of acrylics on canvas displays her careful yet fluid observations of the natural world, the environment, and the seasons in western Oregon. They are also a celebration of her sense of color and harmony.

Included paintings will be Summer Surf at Gold Beach, 16-by-20; Illinois River in Autumn, 11-by-14; Spring in the Columbia River Gorge, 16-by-20; Winter Sun at Rough & Ready Botanical Wayside, 12-by-16; Snow in Illinois Valley, 12-by-16; Appreciating Forest Beauty, 12-by-16; and Siskiyou Mountains’ Greeting, 8-by-23.5.

Hover-Kramer is an active member of the Illinois Valley Fine Artists’ group and serves as publicity chairman. She also has been president of the Illinois River Valley Arts Council (IRVAC) for two years. She exhibits regularly in the latter’s Second Friday Art Walks and with the Fine Artists in Cave Junction.

Her works have been sold to people in California, Massachusetts, Maine and Georgia, plus Corvallis, O’Brien, Selma, and Cave Junction.

She believes, “We need the arts to uplift our souls and to rise above the ordinary everyday of our lives.

“Connecting with the Fine Artists’ group has given me the regular time and encouragement I need to let the creativity flow. I am so fortunate to live in this special part of the world and to express some of its natural beauty,” she said.

The Fine Artists’ group will resume its weekly schedule Monday, Sept. 10 after a summer hiatus. Gatherings are held at the RCC Belt Bldg. on Hwy. 199 in Kerby. Anyone can attend from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Coffee and snacks are available.
