Wednesday, June 18

*The Selma Post Office sustained a hole when the driver of a vehicle decided to attempt to make a drive-through to the box lobby at 1:09 p.m. No injuries were reported. The driver was identified as Cleo Murray.

*Raymond E. Stevens, 46, was arrested on a parole violation, original charge of driving under the influence of an intoxicant (DUII), when contacted at Jubilee Park in Cave Junction. He was taken to Josephine County Jail.

*A jack-knifed pickup truck with lumber on a trailer blocked the road and made for slow travel on Hwy. 199 in the O’Brien area around 4:20 p.m. The apparent cause of the accident was the front wheel and tire somehow removing themselves from the pickup.

*In Selma a man caused a problem, and was taken for help under a peace officer’s mental hold.

*Wearing black leather pants and a brown leather shirt, Otis Jones, 54, refused to leave High Pines Trailer Park, from which he has been “trespassed.” Said to be intoxicated, he later was seen leaving with his bicycle.

*A report of violation of a restraining order was checked on Fir Drive, but the person in question had split.

*Help was provided to a man behind O’Brien Country Store, who needed to contact his father for some repairs.

*Theft and fraudulent use of an ATM card was reported by a woman in Cave Junction. She said that some $264 worth of expenses resulted, and she has a suspect in mind.

*Close to midnight, the ex-wife of a man in CJ went to his house for help, as a man against whom she has a restraining order was harassing her.

Thursday, June 19

*Daisy Cogburn, 27, was cited on a charge of failure to carry current proof of insurance at Caves Hwy. and Old Stage Road at 36 past midnight.

*Two men yelling and refusing to leave the Junction Inn area at 2 a.m. left before officers arrived. One of the idiots removed his shirt and was spouting white supremacy comments.

*On Old Redwood Hwy., several items were taken from behind a fenced yard with a locked gate.

*Probable cause for arrest was noted following a 12:43 a.m. call from Millie Street during which, it was stated, a man punched a woman’s face and chest.

*Damage to a sign at Blalock Insurance in Cave Junction was estimated at $1,600.

*Neighbors who spray-painted a large white pentagram on a Shanks Creek Road driveway in rural Grants Pass in an apparent easement dispute may be liable for suspected hate crime action.

*Switched license plates were located in Selma. The driver of the vehicle said he’d take care of it the next day.

*After a recent structure fire which completely destroyed a home on Coyote Creek Road in rural GP, the owner states that people have been taking items, including a Winnebago motor home.

*Identity theft was reported by a woman in Jubilee Park in Cave Junction.

*Willy Shumate, 20, reports that he was at a party on Elk Lane in rural GP and left his cell phone on a table. When he awoke the next morning he realized the phone was gone. He did not know the address of the home or any names in connection with it.

*An officer check of the Boy Scout area at Lake Selmac around 2 p.m. located Robert T. Shawaluk, 29, who was arrested under a felony warrant charging failure to perform the duties of a driver, reckless driving and fourth-degree assault.

*An anonymous caller in the area of Lakeshore Drive and Deer Creek Road reported someone racing a dirt bike up and down Lakeshore.

*Following a report at 3:30 p.m. of naked man hearing “demons” at a residence on Riessen Road in rural GP, he was taken to Three Rivers Community Hospital (TRCH) under a peace officer’s mental hold.

*A stalking order was violated when a man telephoned the Arrowhead Drive house of the reporting party.

*A woman phoned 911 to advise that she knows where her runaway daughter is. The daughter is with her father in California.

*Some 2 miles north of the O’Brien Country Store on Hwy. 199, a woman was reportedly lying on the side of the roadway. OSP was requested to check her welfare.

*Before midnight, several traffic stops along Redwood Hwy. warned drivers of defective equipment: passenger-side headlights, and no tail lights.

*In the late hours of the night, a vehicle was heard going up Crooks Creek Road, then two gunshots were heard. A concerned caller wanted a deputy to check.

*Near midnight, harassment of a pregnant woman by another pregnant woman in the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy. was determined to be a civil manner.

Monday, June 23

*Possibly intoxicated, the driver of a white Mustang was reported speeding and driving erratically at 4:43 a.m. in the area of E. River Street and Old Stage Road.

*Possibly intoxicated, a man on Reeves Creek Road stated that a Buick driving by is causing damage (busted headlight, damaged tires and fuel lines) to his vehicle.

*Possible identity theft was reported on Cornett Lane by a resident who said that someone ordered satellite TV in her name.

*In Kerby, a pregnant woman said that she had been assaulted by another pregnant woman, and that she was unable to retrieve clothing or other items.

*Shortly after 6 p.m. officers were on the lookout for a blue pickup truck with two men in their mid-40s, wearing leather biker-type clothing, who brandished a handgun at others while in Cave Junction.

*At 7 p.m. an officer was flagged down near the county building in CJ, regarding four people in a Ford Focus who were drinking beer on River Street. The area was checked, but no vehicle located.

*A silver-colored Ford Focus with female persons drinking was reported on a parking lot off Watkins Street. Upon deputy arrival, the vehicle was unoccupied. Several periodic checks of the area revealed it still parked.

*David T. Nelson, 24, was cited on a charge of driving with a suspended license, not wearing a helmet and no insurance on Redwood Hwy. at 8:11 p.m. The motorcycle he was riding was impounded.

*At 8:45 p.m. a driver on Redwood Hwy. at Hogue Drive flagged down a deputy to report a theft. The driver was advised to report the incident to the nonemergency line of the sheriff’s office.

*Juvenile people yelling profanities and causing “breaking thing noises,” were reported at Evergreen Elementary School shortly after midnight. The responding deputy and principal located several people on the roof.

*Close to midnight, a caller reported a tan 4-by-4 driving at high speeds, making a lot of noise and disturbing people on South Kerby Avenue. It further was reported that the vehicle last was seen down by the river in a “party location” inaccessible to regular patrol vehicles.

Tuesday, June 24

*Early morning traffic stops resulted in drivers being warned of defective license plate lights and failure to carry current proof of insurance or registration.

*A business in the 25000 block of Redwood Hwy. was checked around 1:20 a.m. because of “unsecured premises.” All appeared OK.

*A grandmother was dispatched to retrieve a bicyclist after the rider was not feeling well enough to continue at 2:05 a.m.

*Two men in a small silver “beater” were pulling away from one set of mailboxes and up to another set until they noticed they were being watched. Then the husky male driver and older balding male drove away quickly.

*The American Legion Hall on Caves Hwy. was the location of a possible burglary in progress at 11:10 a.m. The door was open, but there appeared to be no one inside. There was no indication of a crime.

*In CJ, a suicidal subject, who stabbed herself with a pencil, was transported by OSP to TRCH for medical evaluation.

*Approximately 10 gunshots heard in the area of East River Street around 1 p.m., were possibly the source of two .45-caliber casings recovered after a white vehicle was seen leaving the neighborhood.

*No cash, but many other important items, went missing along with a black leather wallet (with two snaps and a chain holder). A cyclist retraced his route in CJ looking for the wallet that fell out of his rear pocket.

*An APB was issued for a brown bear, possibly going by the name of “Pooh,” once it was discovered that a honey bee hive was missing from a tree on Holland Loop.

*On Illinois River Road, a resident reported that a door was pulled off a building by thieves gaining entry. Items reported taken included a horse saddle, Christmas decorations, music equipment, household items and a stove. The complainant is to be sent a stolen property form.

*Telephonic harassment was the warning given to a caller who phoned 60 times in one day trying to reach someone on Pinewood Way.

*At 8 p.m., a “verbal disturbance” was reported in the area of Redwood Hwy. between Watkins Street and Caves Hwy. Numerous people yelling, screaming and using bad language were chasing other people out of the area of a fireworks stand. Five of the disturbing party, possibly intoxicated, were warned about trespassing.

*A restraining order was violated when a man pushed his way into a residence in the 24000 block of Redwood Hwy. at 7:30 p.m. He left the area on his bicycle and could not be located when a deputy arrived.

*“Extra patrol would be nice,” suggested a caller, after two gunshots were heard across the street on West River Street around 9:18 p.m.

*Illinois River “Forks” State Park was checked at 10:15 p.m.

*A black eye, with a laceration on the upper part, was the result of an assault by someone who entered a motel room without being invited. The known suspect had left the scene prior to the arrival of officers, and the victim did not wish to pursue charges.

*The parking lot at apartments on Schumacher was the location of a “verbal dispute” between three intoxicated women who were advised to return to their residences.

*A bar check at 11:09 p.m. was conducted in CJ as part of Community Oriented Policing.
