One of the most fun aspects of quilting is showing off your work.
Which is why a group of Illinois Valley quilters, who have dubbed themselves the “Valley Girls,” will hold their first show of never-before-seen quilts on Aug. 15 and 16 in Cave Junction. And they’re inviting all to come share in their fun.
“This is to showcase the artists and the quilting styles of the Illinois Valley,” said Carol Dickson, a member of the group. “This is not your grandma’s quilt show.”
The Friday and Saturday show, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, will be held at Illinois Valley Senior Center, 520 E. River St. in Cave Junction. There will be a small admission fee, and each attendee will receive a small gift custom-designed by the quilters. Hamburgers, hot dogs and desserts also will be available.

The Valley Girls Quilt Show aims to promote quilting as well as educate the public on the art of quilting, organizers note. Quilts in the display will include antique work, but will emphasize contemporary quilts that have never before been shown.
While this is not a judged or juried show, there will be a “People’s Choice” award.
Applications are available for Illinois Valley quilters who would like to participate in the show. They are available from Picket Fence Fabrics at Caves Hwy. and South Old Stage Road in Cave Junction. Entry forms must be returned by Tuesday, July 15. Additional information is available from Dianna Kihs at 592-6226.

A highlight of the show will be the raffle of a colorful king-sized quilt titled, “Valley Girls,” that was crafted by the quilters for the show. Proceeds will help pay for costs associated with the quilt show.
Tickets are available at Picket Fence Fabrics, or they can be purchased by contacting Dickson at 592-8521. Raffle tickets also will be sold at Second Friday Art Walks in Cave Junction and during the annual Illinois Valley Wild Blackberry Festival Aug. 9 and 10 in Cave Junction.
The “Valley Girls” quilt is touring the region as part of events such as the First Friday Art Walk in Grants Pass, and other area quilt shows. Raffle tickets also will be available at those locations. The winning ticket will be drawn at 4 p.m. on Aug. 16.
