Illinois Valley Fire District (IVFD) and Oregon Dept. of Forestry responded to a 12:57 a.m. report of a structure fire in the 7000 block of Caves Hwy. on Thursday, July 10. The cause is believed to be faulty wiring on an old ventilation fan, said IVFD Chief Harry Rich. He stated that it took crews two hours to contain the blaze, which utterly consumed the 100-plus-years-old home. The residents, David & Martha Hodges, were said to have escaped injury, as they were sleeping outside because of hot weather. An account for the Hodges, who lost everything, is set up at SOFCU Community Credit Union. (Photos by Dale & Elaine Sandberg, IVFD Media Dept.)
