‘Joe’ Landry
Joseph Albert “Joe” Landry, 74, of Selma, who was active as a volunteer at Kerbyville Museum, died Wednesday, July 3, 2008 at his home.
A service will be held at Inglewood Mortuary, and interment will be at Inglewood Park Cemetery both in Inglewood, Calif. Memorial donations may be made to Kerbyville Museum, P.O. Box 3003, Kerby, OR 97531.
Mr. Landry was born on Nov. 8, 1933 in Akron, Ohio. For 25 years he worked for The Boeing Co. as an aircraft mechanic in Culver City, Calif. In 1997 he moved from California to Selma.
He was a Boy Scout leader for many years, and for the past eight years he volunteered at Kerbyville Museum. His hobbies included playing poker, and many other games.
Surviving are two sons, Jim Landry, of Selma, and Joe Landry, of San Diego; and two grandchildren.

William Clifford ‘Bill’ Bradford
William Bradford
A memorial service was held Saturday, July 12 at Hauser Community Church in Coos County. Cremation rites were directed by Nelson’s Bay Area Mortuary.
Mr. Bradford was born on Oct. 2, 1941. He married Joyce B. Wilson on Aug. 12, 1962.
He had been the manager at Coquille and Coos Bay Stamper’s JJ Tire Co. until it became a Les Schwab Tire Center. He retired in 2000 from Les Schwab after 38 years.
He enjoyed golfing with his fellow members at the Coos Country Club. He had been a volunteer fireman in North Bend and in Coquille and volunteered with the Salmon & Trout Enhancement Program. He was a member of Hauser Community Church.
He is survived by his wife, Joy B. Bradford, of North Bend; two daughters, Jana Flinders, of Cave Junction, and Ronda Wheadon, of Junction City; a son, Scott Bradford, of Tacoma; an adopted sister, Debra Shonts, of Pennsylvania; and other relatives; and five grandchildren. He also leaves behind a lifelong friend, Sonny Treibsch, of Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother, Harriett Elizabeth Bradford Otto.
Marilyn Hamilton
Marilyn Hamilton, 73, of Selma, died July 6, 2008 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.
A celebration of her life was held on Friday, July 11 at Chapel of the Valley - L. B. Hall Funeral Home in Grants Pass with the Rev. Kenn Bern conducting.
Mrs. Hamilton was born May 31, 1935 in Chicago to Ronald & Marion (Jones) Hoover. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1980 from Southern California.
She received an associate of arts degree from Rogue Community College in child development, and she owned “Buttons and Bows” Day Care until she retired in 2001. She moved to Illinois Valley to take care of a daughter’s property after retirement.
She was active with the Illinois Valley Senior Center, where she volunteered teaching yoga, tai chi, beading, quilting and other classes.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Hamilton, of Selma, and Alexandria Howard of Beaverton; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Milford ‘Mil’ Uel Walden
Milford “Mil” Uel Walden, 89, of Grants Pass, died on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at Three Rivers Community Hospital in Grants Pass.
A private family service will be held. Interment will be at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, Calif. in San Diego County. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Bible Church, P.O. Box 127, Cave Junction, OR 97523.
Mr. Walden was born May 16, 1919 near El Dorado Springs, Mo. to Claud & Virginia (Elliston) Walden. On Dec. 31, 1941 in Plainview, Texas, he married Virginia “Eloise” Evans, who survives.
After receiving his college degree in education, Mr. Walden taught seven years at Brown Military Academy in Pacific Beach, Calif. For the next 27 years, he worked as a teacher and school administrator for Sweetwater Union High School District in Chula Vista, Calif., retiring in 1977. He and his wife moved to Selma in 1978 and to Grants Pass in 2001.
He was a member of Community Bible Church in Cave Junction, and he was active in the National City Kiwanis Club when he lived in San Diego County.
After his retirement, he and his wife traveled extensively throughout the United States. He enjoyed working in the woods and in his garden, reading, and watching sports.
Besides his wife, survivors are one son, David Walden, of Chula Vista; a daughter, Jan Collymore, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Delbert Walden, of Chula Vista; three granddaughters; and nine great-grandchildren.

Holly Lee Hanseth Landaker
A private family service will be held for Holly Lee Hanseth Landaker, 82, of Kerby, who died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at her home.
She was born on July 24, 1925 in Crescent City, Calif. to Norman & Helen (Christensen) Hanseth. She lived in Selma with her grandparents, Antone & May Hanseth on Crooks Creek Road, and attended the former Dryden School.
During World War II she was employed by the U.S. Navy as a civilian clerical worker, and later worked in the recruiting office in Grants Pass. In 1947 she married Mel Landaker, who died on March 13, 1988. She owned and operated the former Mildred’s Café in Kerby for many years.
During the 1950s and 1960s, she and her husband were partners in a logging company, and traveled up and down the West Coast and central California.
She was a lifetime member of the IVHS Alumni Association and a Lions Club supporter. She did volunteer work for the Lions Club of Cave Junction and worked at the Illinois Valley Visitor Center for many years.
She loved the outdoors and collected rocks from many locations. She was proud of her pioneer heritage, as both sets of her grandparents immigrated to Oregon in the early 1800s by ship “around the horn” and by wagon train from the East.
Surviving are her daughter, Jenny Lee Biggs, of Kerby; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a niece. Besides her husband, Melvin W. Landaker, she was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Jeannie Tyau.

Lila R. Odam
No service is planned for Cave Junction resident Lila R. Odam, 89, who died Thursday, July 3, 2008 at home.
Mrs. Odam was born on Oct. 9, 1918 in Headrick, Okla., where she grew up and attended schools. On Sept. 14, 1940 in Oklahoma she married Bunyan Odam, and they moved to California soon after. In 1980 she moved from Escondido, Calif. to Cave Junction.
Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, Bible study and church activities, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are three children, Glen G. Odam, of Montrose, Colo., Margaret Garrison. of Cave Junction, and John G. Odam of El Cajon, Calif.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
