Sen. Atkinson shot by friend’s .38

Senator Jason Atkinson
District 2 state Sen. Jason Atkinson (R-Central Point) is recovering from an accidental gunshot wound to his right leg, according to reports.
Reports state that Atkinson, 37, was injured Tuesday, July 29, when a .38-caliber handgun brought to his garage was dropped and discharged.
Further, that the weapon was in a bag attached to a bicycle brought by Bill Leep, 53, a Jacksonville city councilman and part owner of Paradise Ranch in Merlin. Leep wanted Atkinson, a bicycle-riding enthusiast, to work on his bike.
Atkinson dropped the bag, and the gun discharged, according to reports. He was wounded above his right knee. Indications are that he will need a second surgical procedure before being released from Providence Medford Medical Center.
